Within hours of returning home from the open mic where I performed The Unknown, I began writing this song. I was having a conversation with a fellow songwriter called Gᴜðᥒý about grief at the event, and I can see, looking back, that some of the things we talked about were seeds for this song.
Rollercoaster is about what it is like living with grief. I realized that I came out of that open mic more aware of how grief was sitting in my heart, how you can seem fine one moment and in pieces the next, and what it is like trying to hold it together in a social situation when you are a mess inside.
This song has a more powerful punch than The Unknown and helps me process the emotional impact of the grief that wells up in me.
